- Posted on

48% of adults in the U.S. do not take enough in enough magnesium. Could you be one of them? What are the risks you face if you are deficient? Read more to find out!
A magnesium deficiency is not uncommon. To varying extents, we all suffer from a lack of magnesium in our diets. The recommended daily intake for men should be about 400mg/day and for women it is about 310mg/day. The average diet has an intake of at least 100mg less/day than recommended.1 A higher need for magnesium could be even greater for those on certain medications that could be further depleting magnesium levels within the body. The same can be said for those that drink alcohol and high amounts of caffeine.
Our bodies need magnesium to function at optimal levels. Magnesium plays a role in over 300 different enzyme systems within the body as well as it plays a role in energy production, heart health, nerve and muscle functions, and more. When we are low on magnesium, we could face a variety of health problems including:
- Chronic Health Issues
- Heart Disease
- Type 2 Diabetes
- Migraines
- Osteoporosis
- Depression, Anxiety, and Sleep Disorders
- Nerve and Muscle Spasms
- Constipation
There are many different types of magnesium available that play different roles within the body. Reach out to your FEM Centre provider to find out what type of magnesium you need to help you address your health concerns.
