Sonograms at FEM Centre

If you have your Well Woman Exam (WWE) performed by a FEM Centre Provider your provider most likely has recommended you have a pelvic sonogram to evaluate your ovaries. Your provider may perform the sonogram with your WWE, or refer you to another provider or facility for this testing. Sonograms are life-saving measures.

If you have your Well Woman Exam (WWE) performed by a FEM Centre Provider your provider most likely has recommended you have a pelvic sonogram to evaluate your ovaries. Your provider may perform the sonogram with your WWE, or refer you to another provider or facility for this testing.

But why?

According to the American Cancer Society, “Ovarian cancer ranks fifth in cancer deaths among women, accounting for more deaths than any other cancer of the female reproductive system. A woman's risk of getting ovarian cancer during her lifetime is about 1 in 79. Her lifetime chance of dying from ovarian cancer is about 1 in 108.”

Usually ovarian cancer has no symptoms until the disease has progressed to an advanced stage. This is why ovarian cancer is often referred to as the “silent” killer.

For this reason, FEM Centre recommends a pelvic sonogram as part of our WWE protocol for women who have one or both ovaries. A baseline sonogram is established, and a yearly sonogram is recommended thereafter.

FEM Centre has seen the significance of this potential lifesaving protocol firsthand. Our own patients have been diagnosed with ovarian cancer before advancement because they had a pelvic sonogram as part of their WWE, thus allowing for faster treatment.

So, what’s stopping you from having a pelvic sonogram done as part of your next WWE? Talk to your provider during your next visit about the benefits of this simple, very quick procedure.
